Detailed feedback on the proceedings, discussions and subsequent recommendations for the self-regulation of the 4x4 industry and the development of a sustainable use strategy have been made available on the NOW website and forum.

The discussions at the workshop and recommendations have been categorised into 4 primary themes;
  1. Sustainable Use Strategy
  2. Accreditation
  3. Regulating and Regulatory Body
  4. Training
Detailed records of discussion and subsequent recommendations for each one of these themes have been grouped accordingly. This has been published on the Forum section of the NOW website and all are invited to comment and to engage in constructive discussion of the various topics.

It is important to note that the published information represent the viewpoints and recommendations of representatives of the 4x4 industry that attended the NOW workshop in October 2005 and is based upon detailed submissions made to NOW prior to the workshop.

“…it was agreed that what needs to be achieved is a mechanism and legal framework that would, in order to prevent avoidable and manage unavoidable detrimental impacts to the environment, prohibit recreational off-road driving in sensitive areas except on a registered trail by a licensed driver in a permitted vehicle…” This  embraces the core principle and recommendations made by representatives of the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism who attended the NOW and, given some thought, summarises the outcome and recommendations accepted by the 4x4 industry and community.

What do you think? Voice your opinion … register on the NOW forum, engage low gear and participate!
