The following submission, in point format:

  1. AMID represents 11 Importers of 26 major brands of Motorcycles and Quads. (85% of new unit market).
  2. The Association shares the concerns of the NOW and supports the concept of sustainable utilisation of the environment fully.
  3. Damage to the environment, trespassing, irresponsible / inconsiderate riding and behaviour, riding in public parks and on tar roads and pavements is not condoned.
  4. Strict action against offenders (minority of riders), are supported.
  5. Free training courses are available to buyers of new Quads.
  6. Several courses are also on offer from external Service Providers (Trainers).
  7. Ample approved Quad and Off Road Motorcycle Trails / venues throughout country, well advertised and found in all related magazines.
  8. AMID Code of Conduct for Off Road riding.
  9. 2 Wheels and Quad Corner TV Programmes and related magazines all promote training, responsible riding, protection and awareness of the environment.
  10. Several Tour Operators provide excursions under safe and controlled conditions, that normally include information / talks on Regional historic background and eco awareness.
  11. AMID supports the concept of environmentally friendly advertising. (need to obtain buy in from all parties in Off Road Industry).
  12. Supports concept of accredited trainers, graded riders and trails, and the strict management of it.
  13. Major concern over lack of existing related clubs / controlling bodies and resultant lack in control over individual owners / riders and their behaviour.
  14. Concern over commitment from the Traffic Departments and SAPS to enforce compliance.
  15. Concerned over fact that certain vehicles are being sold via retail stores, as these are not issued with NaTIS numbers / registered at all, thus no traceability / proof of ownership whatsoever. (AMID has been in negotiation with the SABS and the National Department of Transport for some time now, in efforts to have NaTIS numbers and registration issued / implemented for all vehicles.)
  16. Looking forward to jointly investigating and working towards finding realistic / practical and beneficial solutions.
Kind regards
