NATIONAL OFF-ROAD WORKSHOP (NOW) LAUNCHES WEB SITE & INVITES INPUT

In April the Minister of Environmental Affairs & Tourism, Mr. Marthinus Van Schalkwyk, voiced concern over the growing impact that off-road activities were having on the ecology, and called upon the off-road community to develop ways to regulate themselves, before he was forced to take unilateral action.

In response, and working to the 6-month timeframe set by the Minister, representatives from various sections of the off-road community and industry recently constituted the National Offroad Workshop (NOW), which will take place in George, the output of which is intended to form the basis of a White Paper.

Thanks to donations from industry the official website for the National Offroad Workshop (NOW) has been launched and is accessible at www.now.org.za. The site has information on the full background factors which gave rise to the NOW initiative, its vision and mission, information on the Workshop venue, booking & accommodation, and a forum where readers exchange ideas. During 18, 19 & 20 October, the 3 days of the Workshop, the site will be updated in real time as the Workshop progresses.

The convenor of NOW, Mr Jan Joubert, has also urgently requested any interested parties, who feel that they are not adequately represented by the 14 bodies currently recognised by NOW, to send their inputs to the convenor’s committee at for consideration as an inclusion in the Convenor’s NOW submission. Such submissions will receive the focussed attention of the committee, and at their discression, may be included in whole or in part. The object of this facility is to cast the net of viable input as widely as possible, so that no idea with merit is overlooked.
